Closeboard Fencing in Reading & Berkshire

A Strong, Private & Long-Lasting Fencing Solution

Closeboard Fencing is our most popular style, and for good reason. It’s one of the most robust and private options available for residential gardens. Because it’s built entirely on-site using individual components, it can be adapted to fit almost any boundary, including slopes, corners and gardens with established trees or planting.

Each closeboard fence is constructed using vertical featheredge boards nailed to horizontal arris rails, which are in turn fixed to either timber or concrete posts. This construction method means the boards overlap slightly, creating a solid, windproof barrier with no gaps. We install all our posts to a minimum depth of 2 feet, providing the fence with excellent stability even in exposed gardens.

All timber we use is pressure-treated as standard, which means it’s protected against moisture, rot and insect damage without you needing to apply any treatments yourself.

We always install a gravel board at the base of the fence to protect the featheredge boards from ground contact, a detail that significantly extends the fence’s lifespan.

Concrete or timber posts and gravel boards? We’ll advise you on the best option at your site survey. Concrete posts and gravel boards offer maximum longevity and are particularly good in wetter or more exposed locations.
